Baiyun District, Administrative district in Guangzhou, China.
Baiyun District is an administrative area in northern Guangzhou covering roughly 800 square kilometers and made up of several smaller administrative divisions and rural towns. The territory includes both densely populated neighborhoods and larger open areas with industrial zones and green spaces.
The area was originally farmland before becoming part of Guangzhou in 1924, then officially recognized as a district in 1954. This shift marked its transformation from a rural region into a major part of a growing city.
Traditional markets sit alongside modern shopping centers, showing how local commerce and contemporary city life coexist in the area. You notice both old and new ways of shopping happening side by side rather than one replacing the other.
The district is well connected by public transport, with multiple metro lines and numerous bus routes linking it to the center and running through different areas. Landmark stations and their names help you navigate between residential neighborhoods and business zones.
A major international airport operated within the district until 2004 before being relocated elsewhere. The former site remains significant in the region's aviation story.
