Xianxian Mosque

The Xianxian Mosque is a large complex with a two-story prayer hall, pavilion, and connecting buildings spread across the site. The grounds include multiple structures arranged to serve both worship and burial functions.

The mosque was founded during the Tang Dynasty around 629, making it one of the oldest in the region. It houses the burial site of forty Arab missionaries who came to bring Islam to China.

The mosque displays Ming Dynasty architectural features alongside Arab design elements in its decorations and layout. Visitors can observe how these two building traditions come together in the structure.

The grounds feature trees and flowers throughout various sections, creating pleasant spots to walk and observe. Check access conditions and preferred visiting times beforehand, as the site remains active for worship.

The site has an unusual feature where the cemetery is located on the rooftop of one of the buildings. This distinctive arrangement shows how the space was designed to combine multiple functions creatively.
