Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Memorial building in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is an octagonal building in Guangzhou rising about 49 meters with a footprint around 3,700 square meters. Its roof features distinctive blue glazed tiles arranged across multiple tiers.
Construction began in 1928 on the site of Sun Yat-sen's former presidential office, which had been destroyed during the Chen Jiongming rebellion in 1922. The building thus replaced a lost structure with a permanent memorial to honor the founding figure.
The memorial now hosts exhibitions about Sun Yat-sen's life alongside cultural performances, conventions, and ceremonies. Visitors experience it as an active gathering space rather than a static monument.
The building is walkable from central Guangzhou and situated within a park setting with green spaces. Visitors can navigate the site easily with clear signage and layout.
The main hall spans 71 meters without internal supporting columns, achieved through an innovative combination of steel and concrete structures. This engineering solution represented an advanced achievement for its time.
