Five-Ram Sculpture, Granite monument at Yuexiu Hill, China
The Five-Ram Sculpture is a monument made from 130 granite blocks standing 11 meters tall on Yuexiu Hill. It depicts five rams in different poses arranged on a shared base.
Created in 1959 by three sculptors, the work draws inspiration from an ancient tale about supernatural beings who brought rice to the city. This artistic interpretation of an old legend became a new symbol for Guangzhou.
The stone rams embody an ancient tale about mystical beings who brought farming knowledge to Guangzhou, a story that shapes how people understand and connect with the city today. This legend remains central to local identity.
Access to the monument is convenient through Yuexiu Park Station on Metro Line 2 located near the park entrance. The site is open daily and free to visit.
The central ram rises above the other four, which each depict activities like grazing or caring for young, telling a connected story through stone. This composition creates a narrative that goes beyond simple representation.
