Mount Siguniang, Mountain peak in Sichuan, China
Mount Siguniang consists of four summits in the Qionglai Mountains of western China, with the highest peak reaching approximately 6,250 meters. The area spans several valleys with forests, meadows, and glaciers at different elevations.
The mountain was first summited in 1981 when a Japanese expedition reached the top via the eastern ridge. This event marked the beginning of modern mountaineering activity on the range.
The mountain takes its name from four sisters according to local stories passed down through generations in this region. This naming reflects beliefs that remain part of how people understand the landscape today.
Visitors need permits and a qualified guide to enter the national park and access higher areas safely. The trails vary in difficulty, so prior hiking experience and proper alpine equipment are important to bring.
The main peak, Yaomei Feng, is the easternmost peak on Earth above 6,000 m; China's Ministry of Natural Resources gave its height as 6,247.8 m in October 2023. Its southwest ridge was first climbed in 2008 by Chad Kellogg and Dylan Johnson.
