Jianchuan Museum, Historical museum cluster in Anren Town, China.
Jianchuan Museum is a large private museum complex in Anren, Sichuan, made up of dozens of separate exhibition halls spread across a wide outdoor area. The collection covers wartime objects, folk goods, personal mementos, and materials related to the 2008 earthquake.
The complex was founded in the early 2000s by a private collector named Fan Jianchuan, who built it into one of the largest non-government museum sites in the country. It grew hall by hall over the years, with new sections added as the collection expanded.
The displays bring together everyday objects left behind by ordinary people, from soldiers to survivors of natural disasters, giving visitors a direct sense of how life felt across different eras. Personal items like clothing, tools, and letters make the experience feel close and immediate rather than distant.
The site is in Anren, about an hour from Chengdu, and is open every day. The halls are spread far apart across the grounds, so comfortable shoes and plenty of time are both essential for a visit.
One area of the complex holds the handprints of thousands of veterans pressed into stone or concrete, forming a type of memorial that visitors rarely expect to find in a museum setting. It is often the part of the visit that stays with people long after they leave.
