The museum, inaugurated in 1981, underwent a major transformation in 2006 when it relocated to its current location to accommodate growing collections.
The exhibitions present bronze artifacts, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, and imperial collections that represent different periods of Beijing's development through centuries.
Visitors can explore the museum from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with free admission to permanent exhibitions.
The building features a grand copper wall decorated with traditional Chinese designs and a cylindrical entrance hall containing a digital water curtain.
