Bukui Mosque, Religious complex in Jianhua District, Qiqihar, China
Bukui Mosque is a religious complex in Qiqihar's Jianhua District covering more than 6,400 square meters. The structure features two prayer halls built with stone and wood that together accommodate roughly 450 worshippers.
The eastern mosque was built in 1684, seven years before Qiqihar was founded as a city, while the western mosque was added in 1852. These two original structures became the foundation for the region's largest Islamic center.
The name Bukui comes from the Daur language and means auspicious, reflecting the linguistic heritage of local ethnic communities in northeast China. This choice reveals how Daur culture remains embedded in the place's identity.
The complex is located in Jianhua District along Mosque Road near Bukui Street and is relatively easy to reach. Visitors should be mindful of prayer times and wear respectful clothing when entering the grounds.
The grounds originally contained two separate buildings that merged into a single complex in 1958, becoming the largest Islamic center in Heilongjiang province. This consolidation reflects how the site grew into a focal point for the Muslim community.
