Sanlitun, Entertainment district in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China
Sanlitun is an entertainment district in Beijing's eastern commercial area with international retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues spread across multiple blocks. The neighborhood concentrates shopping, dining, and recreation facilities all within walking distance.
The name originated in the Qing dynasty, referring to its location three li east of Dongzhimen gate. After 1949, the area became the center for foreign embassies and later developed into a modern shopping and entertainment district.
The neighborhood reflects modern Beijing's global character through a blend of international shops, local businesses, and restaurants serving cuisines from around the world. Walking through, you notice how these establishments sit side by side, creating a multicultural atmosphere on the streets.
The area is easily reached through multiple subway stations and bus routes connecting to central Beijing. Most shops and restaurants remain open from early morning until late evening, making it convenient for all-day visiting.
Taikoo Li Sanlitun was home to Beijing's first Apple store and still houses the city's largest Uniqlo outlet. This established the area as an early center for international retail innovation in the Chinese capital.
