New Beijing Poly Plaza, Architectural structure in Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
New Beijing Poly Plaza is a 24-story building with a 90 meter tall central atrium whose glass walls are supported by a cable network system. The structure combines office spaces, retail areas, and cultural facilities within one cohesive design.
The building was designed in 2007 by Skidmore Owings Merrill and emerged during China's rapid urban transformation in the early 2000s. Its completion marked a period of intense modernization in Beijing's business district.
The building houses a floating museum within its central atrium that serves as a cultural gathering point in a commercial district. This space reflects how culture integrates into modern business centers.
The building is directly connected to public transportation networks and can be easily reached by transit. Its central layout allows visitors to explore different areas and move between retail, office, and cultural zones.
The building is supported by four parallel strand cables that carry a lantern-shaped suspended museum freely hanging within the glass atrium. This engineering solution creates one of the most striking visual features of the interior space.
