Nanjing County, Administrative county in Zhangzhou, China.
Nanjing County is an administrative county in southern Fujian Province, China, under the jurisdiction of Zhangzhou. It covers a hilly, rural area made up of several small towns and villages surrounded by farmland and forested slopes.
The area was established as a distinct administrative unit in the early 20th century and has undergone several governmental reorganizations since then. Over time, rail links were built to connect the county to larger urban centers in Fujian.
Residents practice traditional farming methods and local customs that shape how they work the land and celebrate together throughout the year. These traditions connect communities across the different towns in the area.
The county can be reached by train, with stops at two of the main towns that connect to larger cities in the province. Those planning to explore beyond the town centers should be ready for travel on rural roads through small villages.
Nanjing County is known for its earthen buildings called tulou, large round or square structures made of rammed earth that once housed entire communities under one roof. Several of these buildings are still standing across the county and are open for visits.
