Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is an energy facility with two European Pressurized Reactors located on China's southeastern coast. Situated approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong in Guangdong province, it supplies electricity to the surrounding region.
Construction of the plant began in November 2009, with the first reactor entering operation in 2018. The second reactor came online in September 2019, expanding the facility's power generation capability.
The power plant exemplifies Chinese-French industrial cooperation, with China General Nuclear Power Group owning 70% and Électricité de France holding 30% of shares.
The facility is not open to visitors, as it is an active power generation site with strict security restrictions. From nearby roads and viewpoints in the surrounding area, visitors can observe the site from a distance.
The power plant features exceptionally large electrical generators built by a Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer. These generators rank among the largest of their kind globally and employ advanced technology for power conversion.
