German Swiss International School, school in Hong Kong
German Swiss International School is an international school in Hong Kong with two campuses, one on the Peak serving students from about age 6 to 18 and one in Pok Fu Lam for children from age 3 to 6. The school teaches over 1,300 students from about 27 countries across two main educational streams: a German curriculum leading to the Abitur and an English curriculum offering IGCSE and International Baccalaureate programs.
The school was founded in 1969 by German and Swiss families seeking bilingual education for their children. The main campus underwent renovation and reopened in 2016 with modern facilities including science laboratories, art studios, and a theatre.
The school embodies German and Swiss heritage through its dual-language approach and educational streams that honour both traditions. Students experience this cultural blend daily in classrooms, school events, and customs like the Klassenlehrer system, where one teacher leads a homeroom throughout the students' years at the school.
School begins at 7:40 in the morning, with kindergarten ending around 12:30 and older students staying until approximately 3:20 in the afternoon. Bus service is available to transport students to and from school, helping families manage daily routines more easily.
The school does not require uniforms, allowing students to wear casual clothing, which fosters a relaxed school culture. This policy sets it apart from many other international schools in Hong Kong and contributes to a more comfortable school environment.
