No. 23 Coombe Road, Grade I historic house in Wan Chai District, Hong Kong
The two-story structure on Coombe Road features classical Palladian design elements with rusticated piers, moulded stucco bands, and arched windows throughout the exterior.
Built in 1887 by lawyer J.J. Francis, the residence was initially named Stonyhurst, later renamed to Glen Iris in 1919, and finally became known as Carrick in 1972.
The building represents the architectural preferences of European settlers in Hong Kong during the late 19th century, incorporating traditional piano nobile design principles.
Located near the intersection of Coombe Road and Wan Chai Gap, the property stands close to the Hong Kong Police Museum and maintains its original structural features.
During the Battle of Hong Kong, the house served as an officers' mess for the Canadian Army while the surrounding area became a central military zone.
