Phoenix Mosque

Phoenix Mosque is an Islamic prayer house in Hangzhou that blends Chinese architecture with Islamic design. The main building contains prayer halls and spaces for religious gatherings, decorated with traditional Chinese artistic elements throughout.

The mosque was founded during the Tang Dynasty and later faced destruction before being rebuilt in the 13th century by a Persian settler. This reconstruction marked the start of a stable period for the building and the Muslim community.

The mosque serves as a gathering place for Hangzhou's Muslim community and preserves ancient tombstones from the Yuan Dynasty carved with Arabic and Persian writing. These monuments reflect how Muslims have lived and worshipped in this city for many generations.

The building is located in central Hangzhou and is easily reached by public transportation. Visitors should know that the site hosts religious activities and appropriate clothing and respectful behavior are expected.

Inside the building, the ceiling features a special design with an octagonal main dome surrounded by six-sided domes. This geometric arrangement is decorated with flower-shaped patterns from the Ming period.
