Former Residence of Hu Xueyan, Chinese merchant mansion in Shangcheng District, China.
The Former Residence of Hu Xueyan extends across 5,815 square meters, featuring traditional Chinese architecture with carved decorations and multiple courtyards connected by corridors.
Built in 1875, this residence belonged to Hu Xueyan, who started as a bank clerk and became one of the most successful merchants during the Qing Dynasty.
The residence contains Ming and Qing Dynasty calligraphy works, stone inscriptions, and traditional furniture that reflect the lifestyle of 19th-century Chinese elite merchants.
Located at 18 Yuanbao Street, the residence opens daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM with an entrance fee of 20 yuan for visitors.
The residence includes an artificial karst cave within its gardens, alongside ponds and bridges that recreate the natural landscapes of Hangzhou West Lake.
