China National Silk Museum, Large textile museum in Xihu, China
The China National Silk Museum features permanent exhibitions dedicated to silk production, ancient textiles, and traditional weaving methods across multiple galleries spanning 8,000 square meters.
The institution, founded in 1992 by the Chinese government, has developed into a global research center for textile preservation and documentation of silk-making techniques.
Each year since 2018, the museum organizes the Chinese Costume Festival, presenting traditional garments and textile crafts from different historical dynasties.
The museum welcomes visitors Monday afternoons from 12:00 to 17:00 and Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00, with guided tours explaining silk production methods.
The Textile Conservation Gallery demonstrates preservation techniques for ancient fabrics while the Xinyou Archive Center maintains an extensive collection of historical textile documents.
