Zhakou White Pagoda

The Zhakou White Pagoda is a nine-story octagonal stone structure in Hangzhou that rises above Baita Hill. It stands near where the Grand Canal meets the Qiantang River, serving as a landmark in the area.

The pagoda originates from the Five Dynasties period, an early era in Chinese history. In 1988, it was officially recognized as a nationally protected cultural monument.

The pagoda displays Buddhist symbols carved into its stone surfaces, reflecting spiritual concepts important to the region. Visitors notice these religious motifs as they walk around the structure.

The structure sits within White Pagoda Park on the north bank of the Qiantang River. The park provides good access and open space for walking around and viewing the monument from different angles.

Notable architects visited and studied this pagoda in the 1930s while working on other restoration projects nearby. Their examination helped document how such ancient structures were originally built.
