King George V School, International secondary school in Kowloon City District, Hong Kong.
King George V School is an international secondary institution in Kowloon City District, Hong Kong, serving over 1900 students. The campus comprises several buildings with science laboratories, performing arts spaces, and sports facilities spread across the grounds.
The school opened on Nathan Road in 1894 and moved to its current site in 1936. During World War II, the buildings served as a refugee camp and hospital for the local population.
Students belong to one of four houses named after former teachers, competing throughout the year in sports and academic contests. This tradition connects young people across different year groups and creates a shared identity within the school community.
Students choose between International Baccalaureate programs, IGCSEs, and BTEC qualifications with mandatory courses in Mandarin and an additional European language. Classes run during the week with various after-school activities available for all age groups.
In 2006, the school became the first educational institution in Asia to stage a student production of Les Misérables School Edition. This performance marked a milestone in school theatre work across the region.
