Lantau Link, Transport corridor in Tsuen Wan District, Hong Kong.
The Lantau Link is a transport corridor connecting Tsing Yi to Lantau Island through three major structures spanning around 4 kilometers. The system includes the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ma Wan Viaduct, and Kap Shui Mun Bridge, with a dual-level design carrying vehicles on the upper deck and rail lines below.
Construction of this transport link began in 1992 and was completed in 1997. The project represented a major infrastructure development for the Hong Kong region.
The Lantau Link represents a fundamental shift in Hong Kong's development, fundamentally changing transportation patterns and connecting communities across the Pearl River Delta region.
The upper level accommodates vehicles with an 80 kilometer per hour speed limit for through traffic. The lower level carries the Airport Express rail line and is not accessible to pedestrians.
The Tsing Ma Bridge section carries both road and rail traffic on a single suspension structure. This combined approach to road and rail transport on one bridge is an engineering solution found in few places.
