Huanglong Cave, Show cave in Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie, China.
Huanglong Cave is a show cave with multiple levels and numerous large halls shaped by underground rivers and waterfalls. The entire system spans a vast area with many interconnected passages and chambers throughout.
The cave formed over many thousands of years through water eroding limestone, creating the complex passage system visible today. This slow geological process shaped the structures that visitors explore.
The name comes from an old Chinese legend about a dragon dwelling in underground waters. Visitors can trace this mythological connection throughout the cave in the formations and chamber names they encounter.
The cave stays cool year-round, so visitors should bring warmer clothing, especially on the upper levels. A guided tour through the cave takes about two hours and allows visitors to see the various chambers and halls in an organized way.
One hall contains a remarkable collection of stalagmites in various shapes and sizes. An underground river also offers boat rides through the cave, providing a different perspective on the stone formations.
