Tin Hau Temple Complex, Mazu temple in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong.
Tin Hau Temple Complex is a religious compound in the Yau Tsim Mong District featuring multiple temple halls with stone lions, bronze bells, and altars dedicated to various Chinese deities. The layout connects several courtyards and prayer spaces where visitors can light incense and leave offerings.
The complex was established in 1865 by maritime and fishing communities and relocated to its current location in 1876. The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals later took over its management and shaped its development over many decades.
The complex honors Mazu, a goddess revered by fishing communities and seafarers who come to seek her protection and blessing for safe journeys. The daily offerings and incense burning show how visitors maintain an active spiritual connection with this deity.
The temple sits on Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei and opens daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for visitors. Yau Ma Tei MTR station is nearby and provides easy access to the complex.
The grounds actually house five separate temples within a single compound, including a City God Temple and a Fuk Tak shrine. This unusual arrangement makes it one of the richest religious complexes in the city.
