Yau Ma Tei Police Station, Grade II historic police station in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong
Yau Ma Tei Police Station is a three-story structure with white and blue façades featuring neoclassical design elements and traditional covered entrances. It occupies a corner position along Canton Road and Public Square Street, forming a notable part of the district's built environment.
Built in 1922 at 627 Canton Road, the station served the neighborhood for over nine decades as an active police post. Its relocation to facilities on Yau Cheung Road in 2016 ended nearly a century of continuous operations at the original site.
The building blends Western architecture with local beliefs, visible in its corner entrance and permanently closed side gate that reflect feng shui principles. These design choices show how such spiritual considerations shaped structures in Hong Kong.
The building sits near Yau Ma Tei subway station, making it easy to reach by public transit. Visiting on weekdays allows you to see the neighborhood in its daily rhythm without heavy crowds.
Original wooden floors and stone staircases remain inside, transporting visitors back through the decades. The distinctive black roof tiles are arranged in geometric patterns that stand out as a defining feature of the structure.
