Zhan Garden, Zhongshan, Private Chinese garden in Zhongshan, China
Zhan Garden is a private Chinese garden in Zhongshan featuring classical southern Chinese design elements. It spans several hectares, with covered bridges connecting northern and southern sections along the Beixi River and traditional buildings throughout the grounds.
The garden was founded in 1998 by Huang Yuanxin as a tribute to his mother. A northern section was added later as a tribute to his father.
The garden reflects traditional southern Chinese architecture, with waterways and bridges mimicking everyday life in a Cantonese water village. The design combines classical garden principles with local building styles, showing visitors how people in this region lived with water and nature.
The garden sits beside Highway 105 and welcomes visitors daily. The site is best explored on foot, with numerous paths and bridges guiding you through the grounds.
The northern section displays symbolic sculptures including a bronze crane, spirit turtle, and pine tree. These artworks blend with Australian Callistemon plants, mixing local and international elements.
