Shek O Peak, Summit and ridge in southern Hong Kong.
Shek O Peak is a summit in southeastern Hong Kong, rising to 284 meters and forming the highest point of the Dragon's Back trail. The ridge runs across open terrain and looks out over the coastline, surrounding hills, and the open sea in several directions.
During World War II, the summit served as a strategic lookout to monitor the coastline and the surrounding area. Military remains from that period can still be found near Ngan Hang village.
The summit is popular with locals who come on holidays to enjoy the open views and spend time away from the city. The ridge acts as a natural gathering point where people sit, eat, and look out over the sea together.
The trail starts at the To Tei Wan stop on Shek O Road, reachable by bus from Shau Kei Wan MTR station. Sturdy footwear and enough water are worth bringing, as the path is long and exposed to the sun for most of the way.
Just below the summit, the path splits into several parallel routes that rejoin at different elevations, allowing hikers to choose how steep their ascent will be. This makes it possible for people with different energy levels to reach the top together.
