Shek O Country Park is a 700-hectare park extending along ridgelines from Pottinger Peak to Mount Collinson. It features dense forests, streams, and coastal walking paths with views over the South China Sea.
The park was established in 1979 following significant vegetation damage during World War II in the region. Extensive reforestation efforts were undertaken to restore the natural environment.
The Dragon's Back trail is an important hiking destination that draws people from across Hong Kong seeking a break from the city. Many come to this path to experience coastal views and forest walking as part of their outdoor recreation routine.
The park has multiple entry points and trails of varying difficulty levels suited to different fitness levels. Facilities throughout include rest areas, restrooms, and picnic spots, with particular amenities near Big Wave Bay.
The park is home to rare plant species including Buddhist Pine and Blue Japanese Oak. A newly discovered spider species was also found here, indicating the area continues to have ecological value.
