D'Aguilar Peak, Mountain summit in Southern District, Hong Kong.
D'Aguilar Peak rises to 325 meters (1,066 feet) on the D'Aguilar Peninsula, positioned to overlook the southeastern coast of Hong Kong Island. The summit sits in a coastal area connected by established hiking paths.
The peak was named after Major-General Sir George Charles d'Aguilar during Britain's colonial period in Hong Kong. This naming reflects the European influence that shaped the geographical terminology of the region.
Locals call this peak Hok Tsui Shan in Cantonese, reflecting the bilingual identity of Hong Kong's natural landmarks. You will hear both names used by people who know the area well.
The walk to the summit takes about 30 minutes from Cape D'Aguilar Road, or you can start from Shek O Beach for an alternative route. Different starting points work for different fitness levels and preferences.
A five-hectare area on the northwestern slope has been protected as a site of Special Scientific Interest since 1975. This protected zone safeguards rare geological formations and wildlife found nowhere else in the area.
