Shanrong Culture Exhibition Hall

The Shanrong Culture Exhibition Hall displays artifacts from approximately 584 archaeological excavations, with objects made from gold, bronze, pottery, jade, agate, turquoise, bone, and mussel shell. Ten original tombs with wooden coffins and animal bone offerings are preserved and arranged in the gallery to show how the deceased were laid to rest.

The Shanrong were an ancient people who lived in the Yanshan region during the Spring and Autumn Period, leaving behind the tombs discovered at this site. Archaeological work began to document their burial customs and the everyday objects they valued.

The display shows how the Shanrong people buried their dead with valuable objects like weapons and ornaments, reflecting how this society honored its leaders and members. Gold items and bronze tools were placed with the deceased as signs of status and importance.

The museum is located in Yanqing District west of Beijing and can be reached by public bus or car from the city. Daytime visits work well, and visitors can walk through the galleries and tomb area at their own pace.

The museum preserves a tribal chief's tomb chamber with weapons and ornaments arranged exactly as they were found during excavation. This arrangement reveals how important possessions were ordered and what items signaled leadership within this community.
