People's Park

This urban park spreads across a large area with walking paths, gardens, and green spaces that surround Mirror Lake in central Ürümqi. The grounds feature multiple zones for walking and relaxing with both shaded areas and open spaces.

It was established in 1912 when Governor Yang Zengxin converted the Jian Hu area into a public space for residents. This transformation built upon earlier developments in the region that dated back to the mid-1700s.

This public space serves as a gathering point where residents participate in traditional practices such as tai chi and group dancing. These daily activities shape the social rhythm and make it an important center for community life.

It opens to visitors from early morning until late evening with no entrance fee required. The main entrance is located on Youhao South Road, making it easy to find.

The Xiuye Pavilion was constructed by Mongol official Wumi Tai and represents one of the earliest structures in the grounds. Its location near the former city walls offers insight into how the area evolved over time.
