Turpan Museum, Archaeological museum in Gaochang District, China.

Turpan Museum is an archaeological museum in Gaochang that collects and preserves more than 20,000 cultural items from different periods. The exhibition spreads across several halls and displays finds from various eras along with everyday objects, religious texts, and biological remains.

The museum preserves artifacts spanning from the Western Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, covering roughly eight centuries of regional history. These objects largely come from excavation sites along the Silk Road in this area.

The collection displays daily documents such as ancient contracts, letters, and recipes that reflect life in earlier times. These written records offer visitors a direct glimpse into the personal and business dealings of people who once lived in the region.

Museum entry is free but requires presenting an identification document. Note that flip-flops and similar light sandals are not permitted inside the building.

The museum houses one of the oldest known artificial limbs in the world along with rare fossils of extinct animals from the region. These unusual finds underline the museum's role as a window into various aspects of the past.
