The Xinjiang Museum is a regional museum in Ürümqi dedicated to the history and culture of the area. Its collection includes over 40,000 objects from different periods, ranging from ancient relics and cultural artifacts to historical documents displayed across multiple floors.
The museum was founded in 1953 and moved to its current building in 2005. It holds 381 national first-grade cultural treasures that document different periods of Xinjiang's past.
The museum presents exhibits about thirteen ethnic groups of Xinjiang through displays of traditional clothes, tools, religious items, and daily life objects. Walking through, you see how different peoples in this region lived and what mattered to them in their everyday routines.
The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday and offers free admission to all visitors. It is located on Xibei Road and is easily accessible by public transportation.
The museum preserves ancient mummies discovered in the region, including a figure known as the Loulan Beauty that is roughly 4,000 years old. These remains have been naturally preserved due to the area's dry climate conditions.
