Chunyang Gong, Taoist temple in Datong, China
The Chunyang Gong temple stands 75 meters above ground level, constructed into the side of a cliff using oak beams and iron reinforcements.
Built during the Northern Wei Dynasty in 491 AD, the temple integrates architectural elements from three major Chinese religious traditions over its 1500-year history.
The temple contains 40 halls and pavilions, including the Hall of Three Religions where statues of Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian figures stand together.
The temple opens to visitors throughout the year, with spring and autumn months offering the most favorable conditions for exploring the structure.
The temple maintains its position on the cliff through an engineering system of 27 wooden beams inserted directly into the rock face.
