Langguan Alley, Historic alley in Sanfang Qixiang district, Fuzhou, China.

Langguan Alley is a traditional lane running through central Fuzhou, lined with black glazed tile roofs and mudbrick walls that reflect centuries-old building methods. The structures sit close together, creating a narrow passage that conveys the residential character of the old city.

The lane began during the Jin Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing periods when it became part of a major residential district. This growth over centuries made it a significant record of Fuzhou's urban development.

The alley takes its name from ancient city gates and shows how residents have organized their homes with distinctive black tile roofs and earthen walls. Walking through, you notice how families adapted traditional designs to their daily needs.

You can walk through this alley at any time, though some heritage buildings have specific visiting hours. Wear comfortable shoes since the passages are narrow and the ground can be uneven in places.

House number 20 was once home to a notable scholar and blends Chinese architecture with Western design elements. This mixing of styles tells a story of cultural exchange that happened in the region.
