Former Residence of Yan Fu

The former residence of Yan Fu is a traditional wooden building with a symmetrical layout and central courtyard, spanning around 106 square meters. Inside, exhibition halls hold photographs, documents, and personal items that document his life and intellectual contributions.

The building was home to Yan Fu, a Qing Dynasty scholar who translated the work "Evolution and Ethics" into Chinese in 1898. This translation fundamentally shifted Chinese scientific and philosophical discourse, making him a key figure in Chinese modernization.

The residence reveals how Yan Fu lived and embodied his values through the preserved rooms and personal objects still visible today. The furnishings and layout show a man who sought to bridge traditional Chinese ways with modern intellectual thought.

Visits are conducted through guided tours where specialists explain the building's architecture and Yan Fu's influence on Chinese education. Visitors should plan enough time to carefully review the exhibition content and explore the different rooms at a comfortable pace.

Yan Fu's last will remains preserved on the upper floor, containing personal reflections on valuing a simple life over material wealth. These handwritten notes offer visitors insight into his personal philosophy beyond his academic work.
