Porz

Porz is a district on the eastern bank of the Rhine and divides into sixteen neighborhoods across a broad area. The district combines residential areas with industrial zones along the riverbank that have developed over decades.

The area began as an independent community and became a town in 1951 before merging into Cologne during the 1970s. This incorporation was part of larger administrative reforms in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Villages and local markets have kept their character in the different neighborhoods, where communities maintain their own traditions. People regularly gather for festivals and celebrations that reflect the connection and regional customs of residents.

The area is well connected by rail, streetcars, and direct highway access, and lies close to the airport. Visitors can choose between public transportation options and have good ways to explore the different parts of this district.

Here sit the German Aerospace Center and the European Astronaut Centre, making this district a major hub for space research. At the same time, traditional glassworks in this region have a long history of craft production.
