Rockmuseum Munich, Music museum in Olympiaturm, Munich, Germany.
Rockmuseum Munich was a music museum located on the viewing platform of Olympiaturm that focused on rock history. It displayed photographs, ticket stubs, musical instruments, stage costumes, and memorabilia from numerous rock musicians at this high-altitude location.
The museum opened in 2004 and operated for 17 years until 2021. During this time it presented exhibitions featuring artists such as Jim Morrison, Freddie Mercury, Pink Floyd, and Rolling Stones.
The museum featured a working 1960s jukebox with visible mechanics and hosted hundreds of live concerts during its time in operation. Visitors could experience rock history directly through original equipment and the energy of live performances.
After closing its physical location, visitors can now explore thirteen virtual stations through a dedicated mobile application available in German and English. The digital experience allows you to visit the collection from home or on the go.
Due to limited display space in Olympiaturm, the museum could only show a small portion of its entire collection at any given time. This meant that most pieces remained in storage rather than on public view.
