Olympiaturm, Television tower in Olympic Park, Munich, Germany
Olympiaturm is a television and observation tower in Olympic Park, Munich, Germany. The reinforced concrete structure includes an observation deck at 190 meters (623 feet) and a revolving restaurant just below at 182 meters (597 feet).
Construction began in 1965 and finished in time for the 1972 Summer Games. The tower fulfilled a dual role as a broadcasting facility and as a visible marker of the Olympic event.
The structure takes its name from the Olympic Games and stands as a symbol of the city's athletic renewal in the late 1960s. Visitors today experience both the Alpine horizon and the urban sprawl from the revolving restaurant.
Two elevators bring visitors up to the observation deck in about 30 seconds. On clear days the view reaches as far as the Alps to the south and across the entire city center.
The restaurant completes one full rotation in 49 minutes and seats 230 guests. This speed allows a slow discovery of all directions during a meal.
