Boschareal, Architectural ensemble in Stuttgart, Germany
Boschareal is an architectural ensemble in Stuttgart featuring facades designed by Roland Ostertag that blend industrial heritage with contemporary design. The complex spans between Breitscheidstrasse and Seidenstrasse and contains retail shops, offices, residential units, and fitness facilities all under a glass roof.
The site began in 1901 as Robert Bosch's workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering, founding the Bosch corporation. Over the 20th century it grew into a major production facility before being transformed into the mixed-use complex seen today.
A cinema, literature house, and numerous restaurants now occupy the preserved industrial buildings from the early 1900s. This mix of cultural venues and dining options makes the complex a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
The site sits centrally between two main streets and is easily walkable, with good public transit connections nearby. The glass-covered interior provides shelter and allows for comfortable visits throughout the year regardless of weather.
The facades display both Art Nouveau and neoclassical influences, with some sections maintaining their original condition from the industrial era. This layering of historical styles creates a visual record of Stuttgart's architectural development.
