Herzberger Teich, Stausee bei Goslar
Herzberger Teich is a small lake near Goslar surrounded by forest and easy to reach by car. A sandy beach, grassy meadow, and small forest restaurant provide the main areas for visitors to enjoy the water and rest.
The lake was created in the 16th century to supply water for mining operations in the region. After its original dam broke in the 1600s, it was rebuilt in the late 1700s with a stronger structure that allowed it to hold more water.
The nearby Kinderbrunnen spring has given the lake its legendary character through stories passed down over time. Today, visitors gather on the grass and at the small forest restaurant, making it a place where locals and tourists naturally come to spend time together.
The lake is easy to reach by car with a large parking lot nearby, and well-maintained paths lead directly to the water from there. The sandy beach area and meadow make it simple to find a comfortable spot for swimming or relaxing.
For decades the lake was fenced off and officially closed to swimmers even though the historic swimming facilities were protected. In recent years the fencing was removed, and now people quietly return to swim in the water during warm weather, finding a simple and unofficial place for a dip.
