Deutsches Museum Nürnberg occupies 2,900 square metres on the former Augustinerhof site in Nuremberg's St. Sebald district. Its permanent exhibition is divided into five themed areas: Work and Everyday Life, Body and Mind, System City, System Earth, and a fifth section. White pedestals mark established products, while light and dark grey ones indicate research projects and future visions.
Plans for a Nuremberg branch of the Munich Deutsches Museum emerged in 2014 under the Bavarian state government's Nordbayern-Initiative. A site was found in the new Augustinerhof building in the St. Sebald old town quarter; the foundation stone was laid in 2018 and the rooms handed over in late 2019. The Zukunftsmuseum opened on 17 September 2021. A Bavarian Landtag committee of inquiry examined the site choice, lease and financing, publishing its final report in July 2023.
