North Athens Regional Unit

North Athens Regional Unit is an administrative division in the northeast section of the Athens metropolitan area comprising twelve municipalities. It covers around 141 square kilometers and is home to over 600,000 residents, with Kifisia serving as the administrative center.

It was created in 2011 through the Kallikratis Reform, which modernized Greek local administration by replacing older prefectural divisions. This restructuring reorganized how municipal services and governance operate across the region.

The region brings together neighborhoods with distinct identities, from quiet residential areas to business districts, each reflecting how different communities live and work in modern Athens. Shopping streets, parks, and local squares show how residents move through their daily lives in these varied settings.

The region is well connected by bus and metro networks, with multiple lines linking the various municipalities. Visitors should note that public services and administrative offices typically operate during standard business hours.

The region ranks among Greece's most densely populated administrative areas, concentrating a large population within a relatively compact space. This high concentration shapes the landscape with tightly developed streets and extensive public transportation networks.
