Corycian Cave

The Corycian Cave extends 100 meters into Mount Parnassus at an elevation of 1,360 meters, surrounded by fir forests and limestone formations.

During the Persian invasion of 480 BCE, the residents of Delphi found refuge in this cave, which later revealed numerous pottery and clay artifacts.

The first chamber of the cave contains a large stalactite formation called 'The Table' where ancient pilgrims placed offerings to Pan and the Corycian Nymphs.

The cave entrance features inscriptions carved into rocks, with the main chamber reaching heights of 50 meters and dimensions of 90 by 60 meters.

The cave earned its local name 'Sarantavli' due to the exceptional acoustics in its first grand chamber, where sounds resonate through the space.
