Temple of Athena Nike, Ancient Greek temple at the Acropolis, Greece
The Temple of Athena Nike stands on the southwest corner of the Acropolis, featuring four Ionic columns on both front and back facades in Pentelic marble.
Constructed around 425 BCE by architect Callicrates, this temple represents the first fully Ionic structure built on the Acropolis of Athens.
The temple friezes depict historical battles between Greeks and Persians, with reliefs showing Nike figures engaged in various activities, including the famous sandal-binding scene.
The temple structure measures 6.90 meters in height, 8.20 meters in length, and 5.40 meters in width, with the main cella opening toward the east.
The wooden cult statue depicted Nike without wings, holding a pomegranate, indicating the goddess would never depart from Athens.
