3rd arrondissement of Lyon
3rd arrondissement of Lyon, Municipal district in Lyon, France
The 3rd arrondissement stretches along the left bank of the Rhône River, featuring wide boulevards and the prominent Part-Dieu business district with its towers.
The district transformed from marshlands and farming areas into an urban space after the French Revolution when city fortifications were dismantled under architect Morand's direction.
The district houses the Maurice-Ravel Auditorium, the Grand Temple of Lyon, and the Bourse du Travail, forming a substantial cultural center in the city.
Two metro lines and three tramway lines connect the district, while the Part-Dieu station provides direct access to Saint-Exupery airport via Rhônexpress shuttle.
With 101,302 residents and 15,953 inhabitants per square kilometer, this district maintains the highest population density among all Lyon arrondissements.
