Beaufortain Mountains, Mountain range in Savoie and Haute-Savoie, France.

The Beaufortain Mountains are an alpine range in southeastern France with numerous summits, the highest being Roignais at around 3,000 meters elevation. Deep valleys cut through the massif, where rivers flow between the peaks and feed multiple reservoirs.

The mountains formed millions of years ago through alpine geological processes, which shaped where people settled and how they worked the land. Mountain farming developed here over time and continues to define the character of these valleys today.

The slopes are dotted with traditional farmhouses where people still make Beaufort cheese using methods passed down through generations. This cheese production shapes how communities use the land and organize their seasons.

A network of marked trails weaves through these mountains with mountain refuges spaced along the routes as stopping points. The paths range from gentle to steep, so hikers can pick routes matching their fitness level and experience.

The Doron and Dorinet rivers cut deep gorges through the range, creating dramatic passages between summits that stand out when hiking the valleys. These river canyons form some of the most striking natural formations visitors encounter here.
