Pointe de Paumont, Mountain summit in Cottian Alps, France-Italy border.

Pointe de Paumont is a mountain summit in the Cottian Alps situated along the France-Italy border between Savoie and Piedmont. The peak features three distinct ridges that converge toward the 3,171-meter (10,403-foot) summit.

The mountain takes its name from Piedmontese origins, reflecting local perception of the steep terrain through language deeply rooted in regional traditions. This nomenclature shows how mountain communities have historically understood and described the landscape around them.

The ridge along the France-Italy border brings together climbers from both sides who share similar mountain traditions and routes. This location serves as a meeting point where Alpine cultures naturally converge.

The peak can be reached through three main climbing routes, with the eastern approach from Pelouse Pass offering the most direct path to the summit. Visitors should come prepared with sturdy footwear, proper acclimatization time, and equipment suited to alpine conditions.

Loose scree slopes separate the Frejus Valley from the Rochemolles Valley, creating a natural border between two distinct landscapes. This geological feature also links the mountain to neighboring peaks Roccia Verde and Punta Melmise in a continuous ridge system.
