Réserve naturelle géologique du Luberon, National nature reserve in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

The Luberon Geological Nature Reserve extends across 28 distinct sites covering 400 hectares within the departments of Vaucluse and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

The French government established this protected geological area on September 16, 1987, to safeguard important fossil deposits from the Cenozoic era.

Scientists and researchers regularly conduct excavation projects and geological studies in collaboration with universities to document paleontological findings from the region.

The reserve management provides educational programs for school groups and visitors, offering guided tours to discover fossil sites and geological formations.

The limestone surfaces within the reserve contain preserved footprints of ancient rhinoceros, hyenas, and birds from the Oligocene period.
