Site de Morette

Site de Morette is a memorial and cemetery in the French alpine foothills dedicated to resistance fighters. The location consists of a museum housed in a historic building, a national necropolis with around one hundred bronze crosses, and a monument honoring those deported.

The cemetery was founded in 1944 to honor resistance fighters who died during the Glières battles in the region. These confrontations were a significant moment for the local resistance movement against German occupation.

The resistance museum occupies an alpine chalet dating from the late 1700s and displays photographs and objects that tell the story of the local resistance movement. The collection gives you a sense of how people in the region stood up against occupation.

The grounds are easy to walk through and allow you to see all areas of the cemetery and museum in a short visit. It is advisable to visit during the warmer months, as the alpine location becomes less accessible in winter.

The site was visited by one of France's most important national leaders shortly after liberation, underscoring its significance for national remembrance. The visit demonstrates how crucial the local battles were to French history.
