Grande tyrolienne de Chamrousse, Zip-line in Chamrousse, France
The Grande Tyrolienne is a zip-line in Chamrousse that stretches 1950 meters from Croix de Chamrousse at 2250 meters altitude down to Recoin at 1650 meters. The descent reaches speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour, providing riders with an adrenaline-filled descent across the mountainside.
The zip-line was developed by MND Leisure in partnership with the Chamrousse cable car company and opened to visitors in June 2023. The project was part of a broader effort to expand summer activities at the resort beyond the winter skiing season.
The route runs alongside the Olympic ski slopes from the 1968 Grenoble Winter Games, linking the mountain's sporting legacy with contemporary recreation. Visitors experience how the location balances its historic role as a competition venue with modern entertainment offerings.
Visitors need to use the Croix de Chamrousse gondola to reach the starting point at the summit where the ride begins. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are important, as the ride takes place at significant altitude where conditions can be changeable.
The installation features a patented braking system that lets riders pass through intermediate support pylons without detaching, making it the longest of its type globally. This technical feature means users remain in motion throughout the entire descent and experience an unusually smooth ride.
