Agepsta

Mount Agepsta is a summit in the Gagra Range reaching about 3,260 meters, distinguished by steep rocky faces and glacial features on its northern side. Multiple karst formations and ice fields shape the upper slopes, creating a complex alpine landscape.

The mountain was documented in early 1900s scientific literature, particularly for its large Hims-Aneke glacier. Over recent decades, this glacier has fragmented into several smaller sections due to changing climate conditions.

The mountain marks the geographical border between Russia and Abkhazia, reflecting the complex territorial relationships in the Caucasus region.

Reaching the summit requires alpine experience and specialized mountaineering equipment, particularly during winter when snow and ice conditions become hazardous. Climbers should be trained in advanced cold-weather techniques before attempting an ascent.

The southern slope contains a natural karst lake nestled in the rocky alpine zone, an unusual feature at this elevation. This geological formation makes the mountain a notable area for studying mountain hydrology.
